Product Overview

The certified refurbished weBoost 475021R Drive X Vehicle Signal Booster is an affordable solution for boosting cell signal in your car or truck, surpassed only by the weBoost Drive Reach signal booster in boosting power.

The Drive X boosts all of the networks for all of the major carriers in the United States and Canada, for fewer dropped calls, fewer delayed text messages, and fast download speeds. The Drive X broadcasts boosted signal to your phone wirelessly and does not require your phone to sit in a cradle, so it can support multiple phones and data devices simultaneously.

The weBoost 475021R Drive X's inside coverage area will depend on your existing outside signal strength. In areas where you have a moderate existing outside signal, the Drive X will fill a normal vehicle with boosted coverage. As the outside signal gets weaker, the inside coverage area will shrink, until you may have to keep your phone within about 18 inches from the inside antenna in order to take advantage of the boosted signal.

Please Note: This refurbished version of the weBoost Drive X has been certified by the manufacturer to be in like-new condition and comes with all of the components that a brand-new Drive X does. The only major difference between the two is that the refurbished model only has a 1-year equipment warranty, while the new model has a 2-year equipment warranty.

Installation Overview

Installing the weBoost 475021R Drive X booster is very easy and can usually be done in just a few minutes. Because nothing is permanent, the system can be transferred to another vehicle as needed.

  1. Mount the Mini-Mag Antenna: Start by mounting the mini-mag antenna on the roof of the vehicle. Ensure that the antenna is affixed to a metal surface for optimal performance.
  2. Position the Antenna Correctly: If your vehicle has a sunroof, position the antenna well behind the sunroof to maximize the separation between the inside and outside antennas. This helps to avoid interference between the two.
  3. Run the Cable: Run the antenna cable into the vehicle through a door opening. It's best to tuck the cable under the door weather stripping to protect it from damage.
  4. Connect the Cable to the Amplifier: Connect the antenna cable to the "Outside Antenna" port on the amplifier.
  5. Connect the Inside Antenna: Next, connect the cable from the inside antenna to the appropriate port on the amplifier.
  6. Locate the Inside Antenna: Place the inside antenna near where you'll typically be using your phone. Common locations include the center console or on the side of the driver's seat.
  7. Check Cable and Amplifier Placement: Make sure that the cables and amplifier are positioned so they won't be damaged when the front seats are adjusted. It's important to secure everything properly to avoid accidental damage.
  8. Maintain Safe Distance: Ensure that the inside antenna is kept at least 8 inches away from any person. Additionally, try to keep your phone approximately 18 inches from the inside antenna when using it to take full advantage of the boosted signal.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does it work with my carrier?

Yes. It boosts every major US carrier at the same time. That covers Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular, along with the smaller networks that run on them.

Will it work where I have no signal at all?

No. A booster amplifies signal that is already there, so it needs at least a faint one outside to work with. Where your phone shows no service at all, there is nothing for it to amplify.

Is this a Wi-Fi booster?

No. It boosts the cellular signal your phone uses for calls, texts, and mobile data. It does nothing for Wi-Fi or for your home internet.

Will it boost my hotspot?

Yes. A hotspot runs on the cellular network just like your phone, so it gets the same boost. Keep it near the inside antenna the way you would a phone.

Will it drain my battery?

It draws its power from your vehicle's 12 volt outlet, not from your phone. Across 415 vehicle booster reviews, two mention battery drain at all. The power adapter has a switch on it, so you can shut the booster off when you park.

Do I need my carrier's permission?

No. The major US carriers have given blanket consent for boosters certified to current FCC standards, and this one is certified. You do have to register it with your carrier, which is a short form on their website.

Does it work outside the US?

It covers the United States and Canada. Most European, Asian, and African networks run on different frequencies, so it will not help you there.

What does certified refurbished actually mean?

It is a returned or used unit that weBoost puts back into sellable condition and resells under the same model number. The warranty runs one year on it where a new Drive X carries two, and it costs less. Call us before you order if you want to talk it through.

How is this different from the Drive Reach?

The Drive Reach sends a stronger signal back to the tower, which is what lets it work farther out. The two have everything else in common. They cover the same networks, they go on with a magnet, and the install does not change. The Drive X costs less, and for drivers who pass through weak signal rather than live in it that is the right trade.

Is this the same booster as the Drive 4G-X?

It is the same product under a newer name. The Drive X went through the FCC as model 460021, which is the Drive 4G-X, and weBoost renamed it. That is also why almost every review on this page was written by someone who bought it new, or who owned the Drive 4G-X before the rename.

How do I know it's working?

Park where your signal is weak, check your bars with the booster off, then turn it on and watch them for a minute. That is the only fair comparison, because the signal changes as you drive. The lights tell you the rest. On the amplifier, green means it is running properly. Red there means one of the bands has shut itself off because the two antennas sit too close together, so move them further apart and call us if that does not do it. On the power adapter, red is normal and only means it has power.

Will it fit my vehicle?

Almost certainly, though a few cases are worth checking first. The magnet needs a clear stretch of steel near the center of the roof, and an aluminum one takes the included disc. A fiberglass or composite roof needs something for the magnet to hold to, and a roof rack, a rack full of gear, or a wing style rack can leave nowhere flat to set the antenna. Call us before you order if you are not sure, and we will work it out with you.
