Introducing the Drive Reach

Every driver knows a stretch of road where the signal drops to a bar or two, calls cut out mid-sentence, and the map spins right when the next turn matters. The Drive Reach was built for those stretches. It's a cell signal booster for cars, trucks, and SUVs, and the strongest one we carry.

You can see the results right on your screen. Where your phone sat at one bar, it climbs to three or four, and everything that was failing starts working again. The call that used to drop at the county line holds all the way home. The map keeps up with you, and whoever's in the passenger seat can stream the whole ride. Mostly, you stop thinking about signal at all, because it's just there.

It should work for pretty much every car, truck, and SUV. The antenna magnet mounts to a metal roof, but if you have a glass or aluminum top then there's an adhesive metal disc included that you can use for the antenna, since the magnet won't work on those surfaces. It's easy to install and move between vehicles. It features a magnet mount antenna that you stick to the roof, a cable you run inside to the amplifier, which you can tuck away out of sight, and another cable to the inside antenna, which you locate in the area where you need the best signal. It's powered by the 12 volt outlet. You can do that all in a few minutes if you're in a rental or don't care about seeing the wires, or budget a little longer if you want to tuck everything away for a cleaner install.

The Drive Reach works so well that even when your phone shows no signal, it can often find a trace amount and boost it up to a level you can actually use. We tested this in Alaska's Denali National Park, where we were almost 10 miles deep into the park, surrounded by mountains, and the phone showed SOS. We turned the booster on and the phone went up to 3 bars, calls came through, and texts were delivered.

Of course if there's absolutely no signal available, then a booster won't work, but those situations are more rare than you'd think.

If your driving keeps taking you through weak signal country and you're tired of dropped calls and no data, then the Drive Reach is the solution for you.

Where the Drive Reach Works Best

If any of these look familiar, this is the booster to start with.

  • Highway Drives

    Highway Drives

Fewer of your calls drop, wherever you are driving.

  • Rural Routes

    Rural Routes

Texting and calling come back on the stretches where they used to quit.

  • Cabins & Camps

    Cabins & Camps

Some customers run it at a cabin or a hunting camp, on 12 volt power or an AC adapter they add.

How It Works

Each of the three pieces below does a different job, and where you put it decides how well the next one works.

Diagram: how the cars signal booster system works
The outside antenna on the cars diagram

The Outside AntennaReceives signal from distant cell towers and passes it over a cable to the amplifier.

The amplifier on the cars diagram

The AmplifierReceives the signal from the outside antenna, boosts it significantly, then passes it to the inside antenna.

The inside antenna on the cars diagram

The Inside AntennaBroadcasts the boosted signal throughout the space for clear calls, reliable texts, and fast data.

The booster also works in reverse. The inside antenna receives signal from the devices in the vehicle, the amp boosts it up, and then the outside antenna broadcasts the strong signal back to the distant cell towers. This gives you a strong, reliable two-way connection to the cell tower.

How Much Coverage Should You Expect?

How much coverage you get depends on the signal you already have outside. The stronger it is out there, the farther the boosted signal carries inside.

Strong signal outside5 bars, -80 dBm or better
The entire vehicle
Moderate signal outside3 to 4 bars, about -90 dBm
The driver and passenger seats
Weak signal outside1 to 2 bars, about -100 dBm
18 inches or less from the inside antenna

Need a Stronger Setup?

A stronger system changes the outside antenna, the amplifier, or both. The one below is the next step up from this booster.

How the Installation Process Works

Most installs take just a few minutes, and the steps below are the whole job.

Set the Outside Antenna on the Roof

A magnet holds it to a steel roof, so it needs a clear stretch of metal. Keep it well behind a sunroof if your vehicle has one, because that puts more distance between it and the antenna inside. If the roof is aluminum, stick the included disc down first and let the magnet hold onto that.

Run the Cable Under the Door Seal

The cable tucks under the door seal and runs from there to the amplifier inside.

Tuck the Amplifier Out of Sight

It needs a spot you can get at with air moving around it, and the included Velcro strips hold it to the carpet behind or under a seat. Route the cables so they stay clear when the front seats move.

Set the Inside Antenna Where Your Phone Rides

It sits on the center console or beside the seat, and it has to stay at least 8 inches from any person. How far your phone can sit from it depends on what you have outside, and in a weak signal area that distance is about 18 inches. With both antennas in place, connect each cable to the amplifier, the outside antenna's cable to the outside port and the inside antenna's to the inside port.

Plug It Into the 12 Volt Outlet

The included adapter goes into the same outlet you charge a phone from, and you push the switch on the cord to ON. If that outlet stays live with the vehicle switched off and you are parking for more than a day, turn the booster off so it does not drain the battery.

Which Booster Fits Your Vehicle?

What changes from one booster to the next is the vehicle it is built for, how the outside antenna mounts, and which one you get.

What's Included

Everything below ships together.

The Support That Comes With It

Installation Support

Our team has guided thousands of vehicle installs. Call while you're in the driveway.

Placement Help

If the boost is smaller than you expected, call us and we will work through where the antennas are sitting. That is one of the first things to check.

Lifetime Support

The help does not run out when the warranty does. Call us about a different vehicle, a new phone, or a setup that stopped working the way it used to.

Recommended Accessory

The booster runs on the 12 volt outlet through the adapter it ships with, and a rough road can shake a plug loose. This one wires into your vehicle's 12 volt system instead, so nothing is plugged in and the outlet is free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work with my carrier?

Yes. It boosts every major US carrier at the same time. That covers Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular, along with the smaller networks that run on them.

Will it work where I have no signal at all?

Often it will. What your phone displays and what is actually out there are two different things, and the Drive Reach can find a trace of signal and boost it into something you can use. We saw exactly that in Denali, where the phone read SOS and came up to 3 bars with the booster on. No booster can help where there is truly no signal for the outside antenna to receive.

Is this a Wi-Fi booster?

No. It boosts the cellular signal your phone uses for calls, texts, and mobile data. It does nothing for Wi-Fi or for your home internet.

Will it boost my hotspot?

Yes. A hotspot runs on the cellular network just like your phone, so it gets the same boost. Keep it near the inside antenna the way you would a phone.

Will it drain my battery?

No, with one exception. It draws 12 volt power from the vehicle rather than from your phone, so it does not touch your phone battery. The exception is a vehicle that keeps its 12 volt outlet powered after the engine stops. If yours does that, switch the booster off at the cord when it is going to sit longer than a day.

Can I use it in a cabin instead of a vehicle?

Yes, for one small space. Plenty of customers run a vehicle booster at a cabin or a hunting camp, on 12 volt power or with an AC adapter you add separately, and move it back to the vehicle when they leave. For a whole house, a home booster is the right tool.

Do I need my carrier's permission?

No. The major US carriers have given blanket consent for boosters certified to current FCC standards, and this one is certified. You do have to register it with your carrier, which is a short form on their website.

Does it work outside the US?

It covers the United States and Canada. Most European, Asian, and African networks run on different frequencies, so it will not help you there.

How is the Certified Refurbished version different?

It is the same hardware, inspected and renewed before it is resold, and it costs less than new. The one thing that changes is the warranty, one year instead of the two a new unit carries. Stock comes and goes.

How do I know it's working?

Park where your signal is weak, check your bars with the booster off, then turn it on and watch them for a minute. That is the only fair comparison, because the signal changes as you drive. If the light on the amplifier is red instead of green, send us a message and we will work through it.

Why buy this here instead of Amazon?

We will tell you before you order whether this is the right booster for the roads you actually drive, and if it is not, we will tell you that too. Send us a message in the middle of the install and the reply comes from someone who knows the product. Years from now the same people answer.

Will it fit my vehicle?

Almost certainly, though a few cases are worth checking first. The magnet needs a clear stretch of steel, so an aluminum roof needs the included disc. A fiberglass or composite roof needs something for the magnet to hold to, and a roof rack, a rack full of gear, or a wing style rack can leave nowhere flat to set the antenna. Send us a message before you order if you are not sure, and we will work it out with you.

How close does my phone have to be to the inside antenna?

It depends on the signal outside. With a strong signal outside, the boosted signal fills the vehicle. With one or two bars outside, keep your phone within about 18 inches of the inside antenna, which is why we tell people to put that antenna where their phone actually rides.
