Introducing the Drive Reach RV II

You can start a day on a highway with coverage you never think about, spend the afternoon on a two lane road where the bars come and go, and finish at a campsite with a bar or two by the picnic table and a lot less once you step inside the rig. The map quits loading somewhere out on that middle stretch, and the hotspot you were counting on at camp has no signal to give you by the time you set up.

The Drive Reach RV II is the cell signal booster for an RV that does not stay in one place, and it works the same out on the interstate in the morning as it does at a site you have parked on for the week. Its outside antenna goes up above the roof and above whatever you have up there, out in the open, so it can receive signal that never gets inside the rig on its own. The amplifier then boosts that signal, and the antenna inside broadcasts it where you actually sit. When the road takes you under something low, the antenna folds down flat at its bracket, and it goes back up once the RV is past.

Now your phone keeps up with the day. The next turn comes up on the map before you get to it, a call that used to break up on that stretch holds until you hang up, and at camp the hotspot runs on boosted signal well into the evening. What makes that possible is the part you never see, the signal your phone has to send back out to a tower, and that is the first thing a phone gives up on. Of the three RV boosters we carry, this one puts the most power behind that outgoing signal, so when the nearest tower is miles off, that is the difference between a call that connects and one that never starts.

The booster only needs some signal outside the rig to have something to boost, and at the rare site where nothing at all comes in from any tower, it cannot make signal that is not there. A weak bar out by the picnic table is a different story, and turning that into a phone you can use at the dinette is exactly what this one is built for. 90 days is long enough to try it on the roads and the sites you actually use and decide for yourself. If your RV keeps leaving good coverage behind, and you want your phone working whether the wheels are turning or the jacks are down, then the Drive Reach RV II is the solution for you.

Where the Drive Reach RV II Works Best

If any of these look familiar, this is the booster to start with.

  • Campgrounds & RV Parks

    Campgrounds & RV Parks

You pick a site for the spot, not for the signal that comes with it.

  • On the Road

    On the Road

The stretches between one site and the next are usually where the bars run out.

How It Works

Each of the three pieces below does a different job, and where you put it decides how well the next one works.

Diagram: how the rv signal booster system works
The outside antenna on the rv diagram

The Outside AntennaReceives signal from distant cell towers and passes it over a cable to the amplifier.

The amplifier on the rv diagram

The AmplifierReceives the signal from the outside antenna, boosts it significantly, then passes it to the inside antenna.

The inside antenna on the rv diagram

The Inside AntennaBroadcasts the boosted signal throughout the space for clear calls, reliable texts, and fast data.

The booster also works in reverse. The inside antenna receives signal from the devices in the vehicle, the amp boosts it up, and then the outside antenna broadcasts the strong signal back to the distant cell towers. This gives you a strong, reliable two-way connection to the cell tower.

How Much Coverage Should You Expect?

How much coverage you get depends on the signal you already have outside. The stronger it is out there, the farther the boosted signal carries inside.

Strong signal outside5 bars, -80 dBm or better
Up to 6 feet from the inside antenna
Moderate signal outside3 to 4 bars, about -90 dBm
A few feet from the inside antenna
Weak signal outside1 to 2 bars, about -100 dBm
18 inches or less from the inside antenna
Not sure what signal you have outside? Check the bars on your phone where the outside antenna will go, or send us a message and we will help you figure out what you have.

How the Installation Process Works

Most of the work is getting the outside antenna up and the cable in, and the steps below are the whole job.

Pick the Spot for the Outside Antenna

It goes on a ladder, a pole, a roof, or a T-track, and it needs to sit above the roof line and above anything else you carry up there. Mounting it toward the back of the RV puts more cable between it and the antenna inside, which is what the system wants. Keep the whole thing under your state's legal height, generally 14 feet out west and 13 feet 6 inches back east.

Assemble the Antenna Before It Goes Up

The 13 inch mast extension and the spring both thread on, and the cable runs up through the mast and out the side exit adapter. Put the thread locker on the threads only, never on the plastic body of the antenna.

Set the Bracket and Run the Cable Inside

The folding bracket clamps to a rail or a ladder between 1 and 1.25 inches across, or it screws to a flat roof with fasteners and sealant you supply. The 25 foot cable comes in through an existing junction box, through a slide out gasket, or through a hole you drill and seal.

Mount the Inside Antenna Near Where You Sit

It goes up with the Velcro pad in the box, and it has to stay at least 8 inches from any person. Never put it where an airbag would deploy. Keep as much distance as you can between it and the antenna outside, because the two working too close together is what turns the light on the booster red.

Set the Booster Down and Give It Power

It mounts with the Velcro strips, screws, or zip ties in the box, and it wants a spot with air around it rather than a sealed cabinet. The included power supply plugs into an outlet in the rig, or the hardwire supply and its in-line fuse holder wire into the RV's 12 volt panel.

Not sure it will fit your vehicle? Send us a message before you order and we will work out where the outside antenna goes on yours.

Which Booster Fits Your RV?

What changes from one booster to the next is the vehicle it is built for, how the outside antenna mounts, and which one you get.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work with my carrier?

Yes. It boosts every major US carrier at the same time, and it covers 5G along with 4G LTE.

Will it work where I have no signal at all?

It often will, yes. A phone reading no bars is reporting on its own small antenna, and the one this system puts up in the clear does better. If any usable trace is out there, the booster works with it. A spot with nothing in range anywhere is the one place it cannot help.

Is this a Wi-Fi booster?

No. It boosts the cellular signal your phone uses for calls, texts, and mobile data. It does nothing for Wi-Fi or for a campground's internet.

Will it boost my hotspot or my cellular router?

Yes. A hotspot and a cellular router both run on the same networks your phone does, so they get the same boost. Keep them near the inside antenna the way you would a phone.

Can I use it while I am driving?

Yes. The antenna stays up and working while you drive. Check it against your state's height limit first, which is generally 14 feet in western states and 13 feet 6 inches in eastern ones, and fold the bracket down when you need the clearance.

What can I mount the outside antenna to?

A ladder, a pole, a flat roof, or a T-track. The folding bracket clamps to rails and ladders between 1 and 1.25 inches across, and for a flat roof you supply the fasteners and the sealant. Send us a message before you order if you are not sure what you have.

Will it drain my batteries?

Not much. It draws less than 2 amps off the RV's 12 volt system, which is light enough to run off a circuit you already have instead of one of its own. If you boondock on battery for days at a time, switch it off when you are not using it, the way you would any other small 12 volt draw.

Do I need my carrier's permission?

No. The major US carriers have given blanket consent for boosters that meet current FCC standards, and this one does. You do have to register it with your carrier, which is a short form on their website.

Does it work outside the US?

It covers the United States and Canada. Most European, Asian, and African networks run on different frequencies, so it will not help you there.

How do I know it is working?

A solid green light on the booster means it is running properly. A solid red one means a band has shut itself off because the two antennas are too close together, and the fix is to move them farther apart and cycle the power. Send us a message and we will work through it with you.

Why buy this here instead of Amazon?

Where the bracket goes is the question worth settling before you order, and ladders, rails, and roof shapes vary. Send us a message with what your rig has and we will work out yours. When something needs adjusting on the road, you reach the same people who sold it to you.
