weBoost Drive X Vehicle Signal Booster | 475021

The Drive X is built for drivers who pass through weak signal rather than live in it. It goes on with a magnet, moves to the next vehicle in minutes, and boosts every major US carrier at once.

Introducing the Drive X

A lot of drivers never live on a weak signal road, but they cross the same two or three of them every week, on the way out to the lake or out to a job site an hour from home. The call gives up somewhere in the middle of one, the map stops loading, and a few miles later everything is fine again.

The Drive X is a cell signal booster for cars and SUVs, and those few miles are exactly what it is for. The antenna sits up top on a magnet, its cable comes in under the door and plugs into the amplifier, the amplifier boosts the signal, which the inside antenna broadcasts across the front of the car, and not one part of that needs a drill. Change vehicles and you pull the antenna off and take the rest with you.

The Drive Reach is the stronger of the two, and all of the difference sits in one place, getting your phone heard back at the tower. That is what keeps a call alive when the tower is much farther away. Everything else about them is the same, down to the install. So it comes down to how far out the towers are on the roads you actually drive, and if your weak spots are the ordinary kind, the Drive X covers them and costs you less.

Out on those stretches the phone starts behaving. Where you had a bar or two, a phone sitting close to the inside antenna usually shows three or four, so the call you would have lost stays up, the map loads again, and the text goes when you hit send. There has to be some signal outside the car for it to amplify, and on the rare road with none at all, no booster of any kind will help. If a few weak stretches are all that stands between you and a phone that works the whole drive, and the towers out there are not that far off, then the Drive X is the solution for you.

How It Works

Each of the three pieces below does a different job, and where you put it decides how well the next one works.

Diagram: how the cars signal booster system works
The outside antenna on the cars diagram

The Outside AntennaReceives signal from distant cell towers and passes it over a cable to the amplifier.

The amplifier on the cars diagram

The AmplifierReceives the signal from the outside antenna, boosts it significantly, then passes it to the inside antenna.

The inside antenna on the cars diagram

The Inside AntennaBroadcasts the boosted signal throughout the space for clear calls, reliable texts, and fast data.

The booster also works in reverse. The inside antenna receives signal from the devices in the vehicle, the amp boosts it up, and then the outside antenna broadcasts the strong signal back to the distant cell towers. This gives you a strong, reliable two-way connection to the cell tower.

How Much Coverage Should You Expect?

How much coverage you get depends on the signal you already have outside. The stronger it is out there, the farther the boosted signal carries inside.

Strong signal outside5 bars, -80 dBm or better
The entire vehicle
Moderate signal outside3 to 4 bars, about -90 dBm
The driver and passenger seats
Weak signal outside1 to 2 bars, about -100 dBm

How the Installation Process Works

Most installs take just a few minutes, and the steps below are the whole job.

Set the Outside Antenna Near the Center of the Roof

Keep it at least 12 inches away from any other antenna and from any window, and a sunroof counts as one. If your roof is aluminum and the magnet will not hold, the included adhesive disc goes down first.

Run the Cable Under the Door Seal

The coax tucks under the door seal and runs from there to the amplifier, and it is built to survive being shut in.

Put the Amplifier Where Air Can Move Around It

Behind or under a seat works well, and a bracket comes with it if you want it fixed in one place. Take the outside antenna off before a car wash.

Set the Inside Antenna Where Your Phone Rides

It goes on the dash or beside the seat, near where you actually use your phone rather than right up against it. A Velcro strip holds it there, and it has to stay at least 8 inches from any person.

Plug It In Last

Connect both antenna cables to the amplifier first. No power goes to it until they are on. The power cord connects to the amplifier next, and the adapter plugs into the 12 volt outlet with its switch flipped on. A red light on the adapter and a green light on the amplifier mean it is working.

Still Deciding?

  • Try It for 90 Days

Signal changes as you move, so the test that counts is watching your own bars with the booster in place. If it does not do enough, send it back within 90 days for a full refund.

  • 2-Year Warranty

weBoost covers the hardware itself. If something stops working, call us first and we will help you figure out whether it is the equipment or the install.

  • We're Here to Support You

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work with my carrier?

Yes. It boosts every major US carrier at the same time. That covers Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular, along with the smaller networks that run on them.

Will it work where I have no signal at all?

Often enough to surprise people. Bars are a blunt gauge, and the antenna on the roof receives signal the phone in your cup holder cannot. As long as some real signal exists along the road, the Drive X has something to amplify. Where the area holds none whatsoever, no booster has an answer.

Is this a Wi-Fi booster?

No. It boosts the cellular signal your phone uses for calls, texts, and mobile data. It does nothing for Wi-Fi or for your home internet.

Will it boost my hotspot?

Yes. A hotspot runs on the cellular network just like your phone, so it gets the same boost. Keep it near the inside antenna the way you would a phone.

Will it drain my battery?

It will not touch your phone's battery, since it runs on vehicle power. On the vehicle side, the adapter has a switch, so shut the booster off when you park and nothing keeps drawing while the car sits.

Do I need my carrier's permission?

No. The major US carriers have given blanket consent for boosters certified to current FCC standards, and this one is certified. You do have to register it with your carrier, which is a short form on their website.

Does it work outside the US?

It covers the United States and Canada. Most European, Asian, and African networks run on different frequencies, so it will not help you there.

How is this different from the Drive Reach?

The Drive Reach sends a stronger signal back to the tower, which is what lets it work farther out. The two have everything else in common. They cover the same networks, they go on with a magnet, and the install does not change. The Drive X costs less, and if your weak signal comes in stretches rather than every day, that is the better buy.

Is this the same booster as the Drive 4G-X?

It is the same product under a newer name. It went through the FCC as model 460021, the Drive 4G-X, and the name changed later. That is also why some of the reviews on this page were written by people who bought it under the old name.

How do I know it's working?

Park where your signal is weak, check your bars with the booster off, then turn it on and watch them for a minute. That is the only fair comparison, because the signal changes as you drive. The lights tell you the rest. On the amplifier, green means it is running properly. Red there means one of the bands has shut itself off because the two antennas sit too close together, so move them further apart and call us if that does not do it. On the power adapter, red is normal and only means it has power.

Will it fit my vehicle?

Almost certainly, though a few cases are worth checking first. The magnet needs a clear stretch of steel near the center of the roof, and an aluminum one takes the included disc. A fiberglass or composite roof needs something for the magnet to hold to, and a roof rack, a rack full of gear, or a wing style rack can leave nowhere flat to set the antenna. Call us before you order if you are not sure, and we will work it out with you.

Why buy this here instead of Amazon?

The Drive X gets the same attention here as anything else we sell. We will confirm it suits your roads before you order rather than after, and the same number answers years from now.
