Introducing the Drive X RV

Plenty of campsites leave you just enough signal to be annoying. Standing outside by the hookups you get a bar or two, and once you are back inside the trailer it falls off to almost nothing, so the campground Wi-Fi is what everybody uses after dinner. The Drive X RV is a cell signal booster built for exactly those sites, and it costs less than the other RV boosters we carry.

The one thing to settle before you order is where the outside antenna is going to mount, because it goes on a ladder or a pole, or onto a CB mount if the rig has one, and plenty of rigs have none of the three. That question is much easier to answer in your own driveway than after the box shows up. Once you know the spot, the antenna stands up over the roof of the rig, where it receives the signal that is out there. The cable carries that signal inside to the amplifier, the amplifier boosts it, and the desktop antenna broadcasts it from whatever table or counter you keep your phone on.

Now a movie streams on your own data instead of the campground Wi-Fi, and the weather comes up before you are out of bed. This booster runs while you drive as well as while you are parked, so calls and maps hold together on the two lane roads between one site and the next. One of our customers had never been able to use a phone inside his trailer, anywhere he took it. The first trip out with this booster was to the Texas Panhandle, where there is not much signal to start with, and they streamed movies from inside it.

Everything this system does starts with whatever signal reaches the outside of the rig. Where none of it reaches, there is nothing to amplify, and that happens less often than people expect. One faint bar outside is enough for the booster to work with, and the return window runs 90 days, which is long enough to try it at the places you actually camp. If your rig has a ladder or a pole for the antenna, and your trips run through weak signal instead of none at all, then the Drive X RV is the solution for you.

The booster also works in reverse. The inside antenna receives signal from the devices in the vehicle, the amp boosts it up, and then the outside antenna broadcasts the strong signal back to the distant cell towers. This gives you a strong, reliable two-way connection to the cell tower.

How the Installation Process Works

Run the cable through an open window and test it before you drill anything. The steps below are the whole job.

Find the Ladder or the Pole First

The L bracket clamps to an RV ladder or a pole, and the antenna also fits a universal CB mount with a 3/8-24 thread. The whole antenna has to sit above the roof line and clear of other metal, so settle where it goes before you start.

Assemble the Antenna

The 13 inch mast and the spring both thread on, and the cable runs up through the mast and out the side exit adapter. Put the thread locker on the threads only, never on the plastic body, and if you use the spring you have to use the side exit adapter with it.

Run the Cable Inside

The 25 foot cable comes in through an existing entry point, through a slide out gasket, or through a hole you drill with the bit in the box. Do not drill until the whole system is up and working on a temporary run.

Place the Desktop Antenna Near Where You Use Your Phone

It has its own cable attached, so the dinette table or the counter both work. Keep it as far from the antenna outside as you can, because the two working too close together is what turns the light on the booster red.

Mount the Booster and Plug It In

The bracket comes off the rear of the booster and fastens to a surface, then the booster snaps into it. A cabinet near an outlet works well, and the box has both a wall adapter and a fused 12 volt hardwire supply.

Does it work with my carrier?

Yes. It boosts every major US carrier at the same time, and it covers 5G along with 4G LTE.
Will it work where I have no signal at all?

It usually does, yes. An antenna clamped up on the ladder sits in cleaner signal than a phone inside a trailer, and it takes surprisingly little for the amplifier to work with. The exception is a campground with no signal anywhere on the property, and there every booster comes up empty.
Is this a Wi-Fi booster?

No. It boosts the cellular signal your phone uses for calls, texts, and mobile data. It does nothing for Wi-Fi or for a campground's internet.
Will it boost my hotspot or my cellular router?

Yes. A hotspot and a cellular router both run on the same networks your phone does, so they get the same boost. Keep them near the inside antenna the way you would a phone.
Can I use it while I am driving?

Yes. It works parked or in motion, and the antenna stays up on its spring base while you drive.
Will it fit my RV?

It needs somewhere for the L bracket to clamp, which means a ladder, a pole, or a universal CB style mount with a 3/8-24 thread. Not every rig has one, so it is worth checking before you order. Call us and we will work it out with you.
Will it drain my batteries?

Not quickly. It runs off the RV's power, not your phone's, and the hardwire supply in the box is fused for wiring into a 12 volt circuit. If you boondock for long stretches on battery alone, plan for that draw the way you would any other 12 volt device.
Do I need my carrier's permission?

No. The major US carriers have given blanket consent for boosters that meet current FCC standards, and this one does. You do have to register it with your carrier, which is a short form on their website.
Does it work outside the US?

It covers the United States and Canada. Most European, Asian, and African networks run on different frequencies, so it will not help you there.
How do I know it is working?

A solid green light on the booster means it is running properly. A solid red one means a band has shut itself off because the two antennas are too close together, and the fix is to move them farther apart and cycle the power.
