The Line Just
Would Not Move
The ticketing system was fine. The scanners worked perfectly. But without cell signal, guests couldn't load their tickets, and the lobby turned into a frustration-filled bottleneck.

The Problem
It started out perfectly.
The doors opened and the lobby filled, excitement was high, and people pulled out their phones as they moved toward the ticket scanners, ready to take their seats.
Then it all slowed to a halt.
Not because the system went down. The tickets just wouldn’t load.
Guests tapped the link, swiped to refresh, and tried again. A loading circle spun, but the barcode never appeared. Someone stepped aside to get out of the way, then another. Staff tried their best to help.
Instead of starting the night with joy and excitement, patrons felt stress, embarrassment, and frustration. The experience had already been spoiled before they even got to their seats.
The challenge was the venue itself. Historic materials and thick walls made it hard for signal to get in, and the building’s historic status meant the solution had to blend into the space completely.
The Solution
Before we could solve the problem, we had to understand it.
Our team arrived with RF testing equipment and spent hours walking every corner of the building, from the ornate lobby to the back-of-house corridors, from the main theater floor to the upper balcony. We measured signal strength on every major carrier, mapped the dead zones, and identified exactly where the building was blocking cellular signals.
The diagnosis was clear: the theater's thick masonry walls, steel structural elements, and surrounding downtown buildings were creating a near-total signal blackout inside. What little signal existed outside wasn't making it through.
The solution required bringing that outside signal in and distributing it throughout the building, all without disturbing the historic architecture that makes Riverside Theater special.
We started on the roof. Our technicians installed high-gain directional antennas aimed at the nearest cell towers, mounted on a non-penetrating base weighted with nearly 300 pounds of concrete blocks. No drilling, no permanent modifications to the historic structure. These rooftop antennas would serve as the "donor" source, pulling in strong cellular signal from AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
From there, we ran ultra-low-loss cabling down through existing pathways to the network equipment installed in a back-of-house IT closet. This is where the signal gets amplified and converted for distribution throughout the building.
The final piece: six indoor antennas, strategically placed to blanket the lobby, main theater, and balcony with coverage. Each antenna location was carefully chosen based on our RF modeling to ensure overlapping coverage zones with no gaps. And because this is a historic theater, every antenna was positioned to blend invisibly with the ornate ceilings and architectural details. Unless you know exactly where to look, you'd never notice them.
The entire installation was completed between shows, with zero disruption to the theater's performance schedule.
