Bi-Directional Amplifier

Noun

A Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) is a device used to enhance radio frequency signal coverage by supporting two-way communication. It boosts radio signals in both transmit and receive modes.

There are two main types of BDAs:

  • Full-duplex BDAs: These devices can perform receive and transmit functions simultaneously using separate frequencies or frequency division multiplexing (FDM). They incorporate duplex filters to prevent signal interference between the receive and transmit channels.
  • Half-duplex BDAs: These devices switch between transmit and receive functions, either manually through a switch or automatically through intelligent biasing.

Example of Bi-Directional Amplifier in a sentence:

"A bi-directional amplifier is a great investment to enhance radio or cellular coverage in specific areas."
